Screenplay for "O Bury Me Now" is a Finalist
My western faith screenplay is nominated for an award at the Content 2022 Film Festival and Media Summit. The category is Best Drama Feature Screenplay – Adult and Teen.
O’ Bury Me Now, is set somewhere in the 1870s. After a botched train robbery, three bandit brothers must transport the body of their dead brother from Montana to Massachusetts to be buried in the family grave, while pursued by the law, a curse, and two itinerant Baptist preachers.
Westerns tend to have themes that appear Biblical, but in reality are the opposite. Redemption becomes vengeance, salvation comes through a rogue gunslinger, the Law is crooked, and justice only comes if you take the law into your own hands. O Bury Me Now brings these themes back to their origin in the Bible.
And it goes a step further. The theological lessons that play out in the conflict wrestle with two curses in Deuteronomy that are wrapped up in the gospel and the work of Christ becoming our curse bearer, as Paul explains in Galatians 3.
